A springtime wedding makes the most of Washington, D.C.’s natural elegance.
Working in tech-related fields, Tina and Ricky Heileman have enjoyed stints in some of America’s most wired cities, including San Francisco and Austin, Texas. Call them romantic, but Washington, D.C. has their hearts — maybe because it’s where they met.
After Ricky popped the question, on a chilly February stroll through Washington’s Meridian Hill Park, the couple knew they wanted to marry in D.C., despite being based in California at the time.
They both fell hard for The Ritz-Carlton Georgetown, Washington D.C.
The couple knew that Washington D.C. — where they met, and where Ricky proposed — would be the perfect destination for their wedding.
The neighborhood can be preppy, so I wasn’t sure it would be our style. But the venue was so unique and super modern. It had exactly the atmosphere and vibe we wanted.
”
Modern, unfussy elegance defined the dress code as well as the floral arrangements. Tina’s bouquet was a mix of garden roses, peonies and succulents.
The choice of venue was especially significant for Tina’s father, a longtime Ritz-Carlton guest. The morning after the wedding, the hotel’s director of food and beverage presented Mr. Romero with a crystal decanter and cocktail glasses as a memento of the celebration.
The entire event exceeded the couple’s expectations — and that of their parents and planners. “Our styles are different; Ricky and I are more bohemian,” Tina says. “Everyone ended up being thrilled.” And the neighborhood they once thought might be too preppy is now one of their favorite spots for a date in the city they love.
“My aesthetic for the wedding was vintage bohemian,” Tina says. “And we wanted plants everywhere. We had an amazing team who helped us pull everything together.”
"The food was amazing,” Tina says. “Everyone told me I wouldn’t eat, but I made sure to eat everything!”
