What to Pack

In winter, temperatures can dip into the 50s, so consider a warmer layer or two to ward off any chill from the sea breezes as you take an evening stroll along the water.

Business Travel

Herzliya is known for its bustling startup culture and is home to many embassies, as well as the annual Herzliya Conference. But despite its serious professional atmosphere, the business attire is surprisingly casual.

  • Particularly as the warm summer months approach, don’t expect to see full formal suits on businessmen in Herzliya. Opt for more business casual attire like polo shirts or light cotton dress shirts without a jacket.
  • Business casual attire, for both men and women, can often mean jeans — particularly in the startup scene, so don’t immediately rule out denim.
  • Depending on your line of work, feel free to swap in avant-garde pieces, like a statement necklace or vintage bow tie.
Weekend Getaway

If a relaxing vacation is in order, Herzliya has so much to offer, from lounging on the beach to exploring the Herzliya Museum of Contemporary Art. Here’s what to bring to make the most of your escape.

  • Opt for comfort when exploring the city and pack a pair of sensible shoes.
  • The coastal location means warmth year-round, so pack lightweight layers. The locals are also known for more informal dress, so make yourself comfortable: shorts, jeans, sandals — they’re all commonplace.
  • Whether sailing or relaxing on the beach, bring a bathing suit and be sure to pack sunscreen to ward off the strong summer sun.
Cultural Considerations

Generally, the dress code throughout the entire country is rather casual and shorts or sleeveless tops are welcome, though special attention should be paid when visiting holy sites or more conservative neighborhoods.

  • Particularly if taking a side trip to holy sites in Jerusalem, opt for more conservative dress like long pants. Visitors wearing shorts will be asked to cover their legs with a wrap at most sites.
  • At religious sites or in ultra-Orthodox neighborhoods, women should wear a skirt that falls below the knee and a shirt that covers shoulders and upper arms.
  • Women would be wise to bring a shawl to cover up shoulders, arms and hair when visiting the Wailing Wall.
